What is vaping and how do I start?

9 March 2022  |  Admin

It’s obvious, you’re a little confused with the concept of vaping and to be honest, we don’t blame you. With the negative attention and lack of unbiased opinion in mainstream media, who wouldn’t find it difficult to make an educated decision on whether or not this is the right move for them? Now, don’t get me wrong. There have been a couple of warranted cases of negative feedback. But common’ now, it’s not like we’re going to spend the next 5 years berating Samsung for their Glaxay note 7, right?

Right, let me start off by making one very clear point;
(If you could read this in an assertive tone, that’d help greatly in getting this point across)
Smoking is NOT cool & vaping is NOT targeted at anyone under the age of 18. E-cigarettes were created as a means to quit smoking, not encourage people to take up smoking.
Okay? Got it? Good.

So, back to your questions.
Over the past 5 years, the e-cig / vaping industry has made a substantial impact on high street retail and ecommerce presence, giving smokers a healthier alternative to using traditional tobacco products. That’s all it is; a healthier, safer and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional smoking methods. A recent survey carried out by Action on Smoking and Health (ASH), shows more than half of the nearly 3 million people in Britain who vape, are ex-smokers. Which is great news - well done!

Maybe, you’re now wondering, “but how safe is this ‘vaping’ you speak of”?
Well, facts and figures work far better than an opinion of some no named writer, right?
So let’s allow Public Health England to educate you in 10 words or less;

“E-cigarettes are “95% less harmful than smoking.”

This statement of course comes with evidence from a real life scientific study carried out by Public Heath England themselves;

If this is not enough I will give you another one, Cancer Research.

Cancer Research

This statement alone has made a huge impact on the vaping industry and obviously caused quite the stir with our dear friends over in big tobacco.

There’s no mistaking the positive awareness slowly trickling into Murdoch’s papers, and how could anyone look past the increase in big tobacco investment in the e-cigs?

How to start vaping? Choosing your devices!

Since the electronic cigarette industry started, it has grown year on year. We’re almost at the point now where you’re so spoilt for choice, it may feel like an overwhelming chore to source information and make the right choice.
But don’t you worry, my friend. Vapertrails.uk have got you covered!

Are you at the point where you’re sick of smelling like an ashtray and you’re finally looking to achieve at least one, (and probably the most reoccurring) new year’s resolution? Perhaps your first two questions are “What vape should I buy” & “What is the best e-cigarette for me?”
Vaper trails have a vast array of starter kits which cater to every individuals specific needs. If you’re looking to make the switch ASAP, I’d suggest starting with the Aspire K3 Kit It’s quick, easy and so convenient.

The Best Device to Start? Pen style vs Box style

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but there is a ridiculous selection of devices available on the vape market. Thankfully all of these devices fall under two categories, making it easier to start your vaping journey:

Mouth to lung

Direct to lung

So, which one do you choose? Well, that depends on what look you’re looking to achieve and what requirements need to be met to ensure that this is an ongoing and beneficial investment. As we’re assuming you’re looking into vaping as the means to quit smoking, we highly recommend a pen style (Mouth to lung) device to begin with. This will deliver a similar sensation to smoking a cigarette in the sense that it is mouth to lung, directly delivering the crucial nicotine hit you’re craving.

When choosing which device is the best fit, you’ll also need to consider if you’re a casual smoker or a heavy smoker. A casual smoker, aka a social smoker tends to be that guy/ girl who pinches your cigarettes when you’re at the pub having a few, and very rarely has their own at hand.
A heavy smoker, is highly addicted to nicotine and wouldn’t dare venture out without a pack of cigarettes. The reason for this, is devices have different power outputs which can affect the way you vape. As a beginner, it is best to start off with a device that uses a lower wattage of power. There’s no point trying to run before you can walk, right?

You will also need to outline your level of addiction as this will determine your e-liquid nicotine strengths. As a casual smoker, it is recommended that you use a low nicotine level, and as a heavy smoker you should start at a higher nicotine level, but work your way down on both levels, obviously.

Pick the Best Vape E-liquid Flavour!

Alright, the hard parts done now; you’ve picked out your new device and the only thing left to do is select your e-liquid flavour. So, where to start... Well, I guess some people prefer Metallica over Ed Sheeran, and like me, some enjoy the occasional pineapple on their pizza and maybe you don’t… It all comes down to your personal preference.
While there are far too many categories of e-liquids to list on here, but basically if you can imagine a flavour, chances are there’s a company out there whose made it already.
My suggestion to you would be to pop in store and try them out for yourself. Figure out what you do and don’t like and go from there!

Oh – just one more thing… There’s this VG/PG thing you may also want to consider.
Simply put; These two components are odourless liquids which are combined with a flavouring & more often than not nicotine, to create e-liquid juices.

PG (Propylene Glycol)– higher content percentages of PG are used for less vapour and more of a throat hit
VG (Vegetable Glycerin) – used for more flavour, a sweeter taste and more vapour

It’s recommended you use a minimum of 50% VG or even 70/30 VG/PG liquid in a sub-ohm (Direct to lung) device. This is because sub-ohm (Direct to lung) vaping is designed to produce more vapour at a higher power.
E-liquids that are higher in PG will give you a sharper throat hit, which mimics the effects of cigarette smoking. If you’re a beginner converting from cigarettes to e-cigarettes, and prefer the mouth to lung style we recommend you a minimum of 50% PG e-juice.

If You would like to ask any questions or even give it a try our helpful staff in one of our 3 stores in Bedfordshire & Cambridgeshire will be more than happy to assist you.
